《英语口语自学教程》下册是按照《北京市高等教育自学考试英语基础科考试计划》(1996年)编写的。目的在于帮助英语自学者学习和掌握英语口语,提高口头表达能力:通过提问、回答问题、讨论和发表自己的观点以及连贯发言等技能训练,能就日常生活和社会生活中一般的话题进行连贯发言,能确切表达思想,语音语调基本正确,语言基本得体。本书共分三大部分:1.访谈(Interviews);2.讨论(Discussions);3.专题讲话(Talks)。每一部分均有20个单元,每个单元都是围绕某个题目进行练习。

本书既可作为口语课上使用的教材,也可作为自学教材。也就是说,学习时,可在老师带领下进行练习,也可组织自学小组,边听录音,边进行练习,努力做到在“无师”的情况下“自通”。这里要特别提到的是,“访谈”每单元所列的问题还可作为社会调查提纲,学生可以外出采访,收集情况,以便进一步开阔视野,更好地提高口头表达的能力。
