A: What is it about adventure that thrills us so much?
B: I think it has to do with exploring the unknown. Besides, I think we’re hardwired to explore our surroundings and use our survival skills.
A: You mean to live like hunter-gatherers?
B: Well, we don’t live like that anymore, but some part of us wants to. That explains the glut of survival books on the market these days. In case you haven’t noticed, though, most people play it safe.
A: I see. So that’s why we go on organized camping trips to the woods or mountains, for example.
B: Exactly! It’s not exactly adventure, like you see in an Indiana Jones movie, because the risks of any danger are really minimal or non-existent.
A: What about sky diving, hang gliding, parachuting and bungee jumping?
B: Now that’s what I call adventurous! Mind you, I’m not a real fan of bungee jumping.
A: Ah I see. You’re playing it safe!
B: Exactly!
